Rush studied music at Ole Miss and received his law degree from Mercer University in 1981. In 1984, Rush Hicks moved to Nashville, where he opened a law firm on Music Row with David Maddox.  Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Maddox & Hicks represented a variety of professionals including songwriters, artists, publishers, booking agencies and managers. Rush continues to practice on Music Row, where he has established himself as a prominent figure in the legal community focusing on entertainment and copyright law.

For 10 years, Rush served as chairman of the Music Business program at Belmont University, where he continues to teach Copyright Law. Rush’s years of experience and success in the music industry allow him to provide valuable advice to clients regarding their legal challenges.

In his free time, he enjoys golfing, spending time with his family, and watching Ole Miss sports.
